Community Resources For Families

Looking for ways to connect with other local families? Take a look at the list below and check back often – we will keep this page updated on a monthly basis as things change.

Our Village Playgroups are geared toward moms with babies ages 0-2 and meet at the homes of Village families. The playgroups are open to all- you do not have to be receiving Village visits to attend. Older siblings are welcome. Email us at brattleborovillage@gmail.com for more information, we’d love to see you there!

The Brattleboro Village Playgroup meets on Mondays from 10-12.

The Putney Village Playgroup meets Fridays from 12-2.

It Takes A Village is also co-sponsoring the Mothers’ Circle, a supportive and confidential discussion group for moms.  Free childcare for babies & older siblings is provided (although babes-in-arms are welcome to remain with their mothers in the circle). Light refreshments are provided. The Mothers’ Circle meets on Tuesdays from 10:45am-12pm at the Winston Prouty Center in Brattleboro. Contact Allison Wheeler at 258-2414  ext.29 for more information.

The New Moms Network is an ongoing meet-up group that gathers weekly in the Exercise Room at BMH on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11. There is no registration required and no fee. You do not need to have given birth at BMH to attend this group. The schedule is available at the BMH website, or call 257-8226.

It Takes A Village – Brattleboro is the name of our active Facebook page, which features weekly posts related to issues unique to the newborn period. We also post local events and opportunities to get involved. Another great local FB resource is the Brattleboro Parents Network.

Many breastfeeding moms can use support at some point in the nursing relationship. Below is a list of local breastfeeding resources offering the service of certified nursing consultants. Services are often covered by insurance, so be sure to ask.

BMH Birthing Center: Certified Lactation Consultants available to all moms, even those who gave birth elsewhere. Typically billed through insurance. Call 257-8226

Children’s Integrated Services (CIS): Home visits and lactation consultations at no charge. There are no eligibility requirements for this service. Call 258-2874

For breast pump rental, inquire with the WIC Program at 257-2880
